Featured above is a canvas that I gave to my Mom for Mother's Day this year. Its theme is schooling and education because this has always been such a big part of her life. She excelled at school, skipping a grade or two and left home to attend teacher's college. She taught in Toronto and for a while in a smaller town before stopping to raise my Sister and I. She supply taught throughout our childhood and now assists in my Sister's classroom. Featured in this piece are photo transfers of her teacher's college and my Mom and her best friend seated at their desks in their one-room schoolhouse. I actually had my Mom's Grade 2 reader so I copied the pages in the front and back where she had practised her printing. Finally, I put a crown atop my Mom in the photo from Grade 5 to signify the fact that she was queen of her high school in Grade 13. This is indeed a very personal piece and is my entry for this week's Step Outside Your Box Saturday challenge.
