Living with my Art

I have a friend who literally lives with his art.   Honestly, until I visited his amazing home for the first time, I hadn't even thought about how important that could be.   His walls are filled with his paintings which rotate as purchases are made or as his mood changes.   His walls are painted bright colours so that he can switch his pieces around to see how colour makes a difference to them.   I love visiting and I've thought a great deal about this whole idea of "living with one's art".   I remember when my Friend visited and he asked where my art was....um, living with others around the world.   Why didn't I have even one piece to show him?   I've decided this year to begin to make art just for me.  Okay, I don't yet have a piece of mine on a wall in my home but I have dug out journals that were never finished and I'm working on them.   I've also launched full force into art journaling and this has given me another opportunity to create just for myself.    I think it's somehow about having the confidence to say to a visitor "and this is one of mine".   I'm working towards this day.  These are a couple of journal pages that I created today.....just for me!

What a great post Heather! And Sister, I "Hear" you!

It started for me last Spring when I made one of my "Ribbon and Lace" necklaces,,,Just for me! It was enlightening! I'd always made things to sell or giveaway, but sitting down and creating for myself was something new, truly!

During the summer I made a mirror-covered with Seashells/Italian metal flowers, and some other items, and fell in love with it. It's now in my livingroom. Love it!

And last month, I made a "Crepe Paper Cake" (pictured on my sidebar) that sits in the middle of my Dining room table on a pedastal plate. Again, Love it!

I too am learning that Sometimes it's not only just OKAY to create things just for ourselves......it's important!

Love your pieces!

I just hung my second piece in my house and it still feels odd. I have to get over the "self-promotion" feeling. Why shouldn't I, I say?
Love the journal pages /file folders!! Just pinned them!

I love these pages! So great that you are making art for yourself. Something we forget to do. It does make your house more you when you hang up art that you love (& make).

I just had a friend ask me the same thing, wanted to come over to "see" my art. Had to steer her to my Flickr instead. I think this is more common than one might think... xoxo

I have a few pieces that are just for me but most of my stuff I try to get out the door as fast as I can. If not I find I'll tear it apart eventually to use for other art, YIKES! lol.

Long time no connect Heather ... I'm madly into art journalling too these days, and isn't it wonderful to make art just for yourself?
