The Three Muses - Postage Stamps

When I was a child my Mom thought it would be interesting for my Sister and I to collect stamps. She diligently purchased albums for both of us including a beautiful one for first issues of Canadian stamps. We were both mildly interested and with prompting would use the little sticky flaps to affix the new stamps to the pages. Occasionally we would purchase one of those bags of stamps and sort through them to see if there were any "gems"....countries we didn't have or particularly old stamps. In fact, in Grade 6 I wrote a speech and completely a project on philately that earned me high marks. I think, in the end though, it was really my Mom who found stamps so fascinating. As an artist, I look at them in a whole new way but I still can't bring myself to rob my books of stamps for my artwork....maybe some day. This is my entry for the Three Muses challenge this week.

Love this Heather. I collected stamps as a child but only off of the in coming mail, I didn't purchase any. When I was 25 a favorite cousin moved over seas and started to send me stamps from all the places he traveled. Now I have bags of them!

Heather,
I love your entry. I collected stamps also-my childhood album got given away-then as an adult, I thought I would collect them--but I didn't want to put them in an album--just loved looking at them. I need to get them out and use them.

For some reason, I have the Beatles song "Ticket to Ride" going through my head and I can't get rid of it! Heather, your collage is superb and I enjoyed your story about collecting postage stamps as a child and still treasuring them today. I think we all started an album but most of us never got past the first page.
Wonderful artwork and a great story. Great artwork.

I love this entry, Heather. Vintage autos are a weakness of mine. About your stamp books -- why can't you scan pages and print duplicates to use in your art. What a storehouse of material you'd have!

It's lovely. I collected stamps for a short time when I was young, but didn't keep any of them. I wish I had now!
