The Three Muses Challenge - Inspirational People

As I've mentioned many times before, I have always loved poetry. It appealed to me as a child because it often had a soothing rhythm and took me places in my imagination quickly and succinctly. As a student and English major I studied the "great" poets and in the course of my reading discovered both Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson. Each has an entirely different style of writing but both have made an impact on me and I seek out their work to inspire me and move me. These are my entries for this week's The Three Muses Challenge.

Heather I hope everyone takes the time to enlarge both of these wonderful pieces to get a better look at both the painting and the poetry. Bravo my friend for sharing these with us.

I share your love for poetry, Heather. These pieces are lovely tributes to Dickinson and Whitman. At my cousin's graveside service (he was a farmer in Illinois), Carl Sandburg's poem "The Illinois Farmer" was read, and it so eloquently concluded the service. Good work here, Heather, in acknowledging a couple of the "old" poets.

It was worth taking the time to enlarge these beautiful pieces, Heather. Your artwork tribute to both of these "greats" is poetic in and of itself. Beautiful! Hugs, Terri

I echo Taluula's remark, inviting everyone to enlarge your exquisite pictures so as not to miss a word or the details in your painting and collage work. I love your tributes to Walt Witman and Emily Dickinson - wonderful choices for inspirational people.

These pieces are fantastic! I especially love the background of the second one. The use of orange is so bold and daring...great use of the color! I can almost feel the autumn day.
