Mixed Media Monday - Places

Do you ever visit a place and in visiting it, it becomes part of your soul? You think about it and feel a sense of warmth and belonging when you do? When I saw that the theme on Mixed Media Monday this week was "Places" I knew that I had to repost these round robin journal pages because they are very special to me. I took these photos in Newfoundland while visiting with with my best friend. We decided on the spur of the moment to visit Cape Speare, very close to St. John's where we were staying. It was a lovely golden evening, perfect for photography and some of the best shots from our entire trip were taken there. I was also fascinated by its history. During WW II a coastal defence battery was built at Cape Speare to protect the harbour from German submarines and raiders. You can explore underground passages that acted as magazine and equipment rooms and gun placements remain as a reminder of that time. You can read more about Cape Speare here.

Heather, I'm such a fan of your work. It's vibrant and lively and simply gorgeous.

We have twin destinations this week, in that the primary photo of my piece is also a little bit of Newfoundland.

These are perfect papers to capture the feel of these photographs. NFLD is one place I have not been in Canada and one I would love to visit (my great great-grandmother was born in Newfoundland and moved to England when she married my great great grandfather who was in the Army and met her there).
