Do you ever visit a place and in visiting it, it becomes part of your soul? You think about it and feel a sense of warmth and belonging when you do? When I saw that the theme on Mixed Media Monday this week was "Places" I knew that I had to repost these round robin journal pages because they are very special to me. I took these photos in Newfoundland while visiting with with my best friend. We decided on the spur of the moment to visit Cape Speare, very close to St. John's where we were staying. It was a lovely golden evening, perfect for photography and some of the best shots from our entire trip were taken there. I was also fascinated by its history. During WW II a coastal defence battery was built at Cape Speare to protect the harbour from German submarines and raiders. You can explore underground passages that acted as magazine and equipment rooms and gun placements remain as a reminder of that time. You can read more about Cape Speare here.
