4" X 4" Friday - Florals

I have always been very drawn to pressed flowers. I used to pick wildflowers when I was a child and lay them between the pages of dictionaries and other large books. Sometimes I would remember they were there and other times I would forget. Have you ever been flipping through an old book and discovered a pressed flower? I always wonder if the flower had special meaning to the person who so carefully left it between the pages? I now use my Microfleur for a quick and easy pressing. I adhered the flowers in this piece with beeswax which works beautifully. It is my submission for 4' X 4" Friday with the theme of "Florals".

This is adorable Heather!! And great use of the flowers. I have a few that a friend pressed for me that I wasn't sure what to do with them. Ireally should incorporate them into my paintings some how!

Oh, yes, Heather!!! Pressed flowers...so lovely. One of my favorite finds is a journal from the late 1890's through 1904. It was used by a young lady for her history notes and favorite quotations. Her calligraphy is magical. I purchased the journal in the 1980's for one dollar!!! What a treasure! Inside was a small calendar from 1903 that had been taken apart. A small pressed flower was also between the journal pages. Every time I touch that journal I am so in awe that another woman from almost 100 years ago created so much joy for this stranger's love of vintage diaries. I am posting a picture on my blog for you of the flower and calendar. Just for you, Heather!!!
