Theme Thursday - Hats or Crowns

This is a studio photo of my maternal Grandmother when she was 18. I've always loved the pensive look on her face as though she is lost in thought. My Grandmother has always been a fashionable dresser too and this dress is quite pretty. This is my entry for this week's Theme Thursday challenge.

ATC Wednesday - House

It is rather refreshing to take a break from the standard rectangular artist trading cards and to try shaped cards like this one. An additional curve or a triangle can be a jump start to inspiration. This is my entry for this week's ATC Wednesday challenge.

Crazy Amigo Challenge - Colourful Vintage

It is amazing how vintage photographs lend themselves to coloured backgrounds so beautifully. I purchased this wonderful photo from an Etsy seller (Musty Box Ephemera) and noted that the woman had a touch of orange in her dress. I played with this colour in the background and accompanying embellishments. This is my entry for this week's Crazy Amigo Challenge.

Mixed Media Monday - On the Beach

Are you dreaming about it? Summer, that is, with its warm and humid days....perfect for a day at the beach. You pack up your towels, your flip flops, sun screen, a hat and a good book and off you go. I still feel excitement when I open the car door and hear the sound of the waves on the shore. This is my entry for this week's Mixed Media Monday challenge.

Sunday Stampers - Time After Time

I awoke this morning with the realization that April is almost over and May nearly here! Whew! It honestly just seems like yesterday that I was looking out my frosted windows at piles of snow and windy, blustery weather. Not that I'm complaining though. I'm always grateful that the passing of time brings with it changes in the seasons. This card which is actually created out of a brown paper bag is my entry for this week's Sunday Stampers challenge.

Saturday Surprise - Dreams

Life can be so frenzied, can't it? I yearn for days when time allowed for dreaming. I remember lying underneath a gorgeous maple tree in our backyard staring up at the sun dappled leaves and listening to the rustling sound of the wind moving among them. This was the perfect setting for dreaming. What was my life going to be like? Where would I travel? Where would I live? "Dreams" is the theme for this week's Saturday Surprise challenge.

TGIF Challenge - Fishes

I'm not quite sure how I feel about riding around on a fish all day. However, this bathing beauty doesn't appear to be very alarmed at all. She even has her legs crossed! This is my entry for this week's TGIF challenge.

Theme Thursday - Famous Faces

Where would we be without Christopher Columbus and others like him who struck out to discover new worlds, the ones that we inhabit right now? This is a round robin journal page I created. I wanted to make it humourous so I played with the world is flat versus round debate. This is my entry for this week's Theme Thursday challenge.

Wednesday Stamper - Earth Day

Happy Earth Day! There was certainly a great deal of action in the natural world this morning as I went for my morning run. Rabbits were everywhere. Robins were loudly calling. In fact, there was a cacophony (don't you love that word?) of bird sound. Most beautiful and unusual, however, were three deer grazing on the front lawn of a house I pass on my route. They just paused, looked up from the grass and we stared at one another for a few seconds. Neither woman nor animal seemed particularly alarmed. These round robin journal pages are my entry for Wednesday Stamper this week.

Crazy Amigo Challenge - Proverbs and Sayings

I have kept journals of favourite sayings, quotations, jokes and paragraphs from books since I was a teen. Some of the earlier ones are tattered and falling apart because I find that I use them to add to a card or to accompany a piece of artwork. It's always so exciting to find just the right quotation to adorn a piece. As I flip through my books, I often find sayings repeated and this is one of them....."Light tomorrow with today". It's a small phrase that holds a world of meaning. This is my entry for this week's Crazy Amigo Challenge.

Created ByHand Challenge - Blue and Sand

The colours blue and sand remind me of sundrenched days at the beach. The whole day is devoted to laying on the warm sand on a beach blanket and listening to the sound of the waves lapping at the shore as the sun envelopes your body in warmth. Ahhh..... This is my entry for this week's Created ByHand Challenge.

Mixed Media Monday - Mermaids

To tell you the truth I have mixed feelings about mermaids. Perhaps it's because I've read too many stories of them luring sailors to their demise in the mysterious underwater world. That being said, these two lovelies don't look in the least bit conniving or sinister. I've used a tin with a window in it which adds interesting depth. I couldn't help but giggle when I added the little "Bass" embellishment....waterproof guaranteed! I think not!! This is my entry for this week's Mixed Media Monday challenge.

Lots to Do Challenge - Black and White

There is something so striking about the combination of black and white. It just seems to speak for itself and begs simplicity somehow. This is my submission for this week's Lots to Do challenge.

Saturday Surprise Challenge - Songs and Music

Oh how I remember the anxiety and excitement of not knowing how my life was going to turn out. I guess that is why the song "Que Sera Sera" always appealed to me. It is so comforting to know that we can control some aspects of our life but I had to learn that there is a great deal that is out of our hands. Whatever will be, will be....This is my entry for this week's Saturday Surprise Challenge.

Theme Thursday - Glamour Girls

Don't you find yourself attracted to black and white photographs of glamour girls? These ones have a hint of colour on their cheeks and of course those red red lips that are notorious. This round robin page is my entry for this week's Theme Thursday challenge.

Crazy Amigo Challenge - Nature

So much of my artwork is inspired by nature. I wanted my "Boy of the Woods" to have a place to live that was slightly dark yet inviting and filled with the mysteries and surprises of a forest. As you can tell, it gets a bit cool in his environment. Thus the blue coat is a necessity. This is my entry for the Crazy Amigo challenge this week.

Created ByHand Challenge - Fruit

We have a vineyard nearby that I love to visit. The owner of the winery holds special events all summer into fall featuring different genres of music....big band, jazz, the blues. There is a stage on the property and wine is sold to go with whatever one packs for a picnic. Everyone just brings their sunscreen, hats, lawnchairs for an afternoon of music and socializing....ah, lovely! In the Fall, a gorgeous and bountiful brunch is served in the vineyard complete with an invitation to stomp the grapes. This is my entry for this week's Created ByHand challenge.

"Artful Thank You" Giveaway Winner

Oh how I wish I could send each and every one of you who visit my blog on a regular basis a little something. Just know that all of your support means the world to me. Yesterday afternoon I used the random number generator to choose a winner of my altered journal and that person is Amy from Paper and Gluestix. Congratulations Amy!!

Mixed Media Monday challenge - Easter

I was recently given an amazing gift. My Mom was sorting through some of my Gram's possessions and stumbled across a box of vintage cards amazingly well preserved. Mom said she used to go through the box as a little girl when she was home sick. Some fold out into the most intricate vignettes. Some are humourous and others are delicate and pretty. This image of two rabbits reminded me of these cards and is my entry for this week's Mixed Media Monday challenge.

Think Monday, Think ATC - Eyes

So much of our in-person communication with others involves the eyes. They twinkle with humour, flash with anger and dull with sadness even though the rest of the face may be emulating good humour. "Eyes" is the theme for this weeks' Think Monday, Think ATC challenge this week.

Gothic Arch Challenge - Open Theme

The Gothic Arch challenge has been announced as an open theme again this week so I decided to create an arch that was in keeping with this sacred weekend. I hope that you are enjoying time with family and friends and that the sun is shining in your part of the world. It is in mine and I am planning to savour it.

Lots to Do Challenge- Numbers

Numbers are so pivotal in childhood aren' they? When a child is a baby, their age is measured in months and days, their height and weight are charted. When we moved into our home, we discovered lines on the door frame of our kitchen marking the height of Mommy, Daddy and two little girls at one moment in time. I found it both touching and sad that this remembrance couldn't be taken with them. This is my entry for the Lots to Do Challenge this week.

Saturday Surprise Challenge - Wild Things

I chose the theme "Wild Things" for this week's Saturday Surprise challenge and I honestly can't get the book "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak out of my mind. A blog I visited recently announced with excitement that a movie has been made of the picture book. A clip of it accompanied the announcement and it looks as though it is going to be magical! Well, my art piece really has nothing to do with the book. I am just a huge fan of elephants. If I'm flipping through the television channels and a documentary on the wonderful creatures is on, I'm hooked. I find them intelligent and utterly fascinated. I'd love to see your interpretation of the theme if you'd like to take the challenge this week!! There's even a draw for two wonderful stamp sets!!

Speaking of draws, you have a couple of days left to enter my draw for an altered journal. You can find the post here. All you have to do is to leave a comment. I'll choose the winner on Sunday afternoon.

Theme Thursday - Sewing

Gorgeous batik fabric, an image transferred onto transparency, lace, embellishments and my sewing machine combined to create this fabric book page....my entry for this week's Theme Thursday challenge.

ATC Wednesday - Dress

When I read the theme of ATC Wednesday this week, I couldn't help but think of this image from Retro Cafe Art Gallery. Can you imagine wearing a dress such as this one? It is obvious that she is tied tightly into a corset. It's hard to imagine how she is able to breath and move freely....all in the name of fashion I suppose!

If you haven't already, please feel free to enter my giveaway!

Crazy Amigo Challenge - Tim Holtz

When I read that the theme for the Crazy Amigo Challenge was "Tim Holtz" this week, I just had to use my favourite Tim Holtz rubber stamp. You can tell I like it because I have it in both large and small size. Honestly, the look on the little prince's face is priceless.
On another note, I invite you leave a comment to be entered in my "Artful Thank You" giveaway. I'll be drawing on Sunday!

Created ByHand Challenge - Spring

I don't know about you but I am less than convinced that it is Spring! I arose to walk with a friend of mine to be greeted by icy, snowy sidewalks and freezing temperatures. Let's just call this the "last blast" of wintry weather. I think this little girl epitomizes the freshness and feeling of renewal of Spring so I used her to create this 4" X 4" calendar page. This is my entry for this week's Created ByHand challenge.

"Artful Thank You" Giveaway

I have a confession to make. I just don't get blog hopping as often as I'd like. My time commitments have shifted over the last few months making it difficult to fit everything into a week that I'd like. I very much miss seeing everyone's artwork and I do apologize. As a thank you to each and every one of you who visits my blog and supports me with your kind words, I would like to thank you by inviting you to enter my draw for this altered journal. I used the Sarah Whitmire technique to create it. All you have to do to be entered in the draw is to leave a comment on this post. I'll draw a name next Sunday afternoon and mail it to the winner.

Mixed Media Monday - Stripes and/or Polka Dots

This is a round robin journal page that I created around the theme of "Friends"...the theme of the last few of my posts it seems. I wanted to convey the diverse characteristics of my nearest and dearest so I did so with words. I really like using these body parts and stamping them on different but complementary scrapbook papers. They just seemed to suit the theme of the pages. This is my entry for this week's Mixed Media Monday challenge.

Think Monday, Think ATC - Togetherness

I think this saying really does say it all...."Sisterhood is Powerful". So many remarkable things can happen when women form bonds together. I'm a much stronger and richer person thanks to my girlfriends. This is my entry for this week's Think Monday, Think ATC challenge.

Opus Gluei Challenge - Silver Screen

Mary Pickford has always been someone who has fascinated me. The fact she is a fellow Canadian is a point of pride for me but I'm also interested in her life and her career as a movie icon. I created this piece using this gorgeous and romantic image of her. The flowers on the left started off completely purple but, to my initial horror, some browned. I panicked and immediately made plans to replace them but as I studied the piece I realized that they added something to it....a feeling that there are two sides to stardom and that it can be very lonely and fleeting. This is my entry for this week's Opus Gluei challenge.

Lots To Do Challenge - Art

I can't imagine my life without art. It brings me solace, joy, new challenges and a gorgeous richness. It also links me to so many wonderful artists around the world thanks to blogging. This is a card I made to celebrate art and is my entry for this week's Lots To Do challenge.

Gothic Arches Challenge - Open Theme

The theme is wide open this week on Gothic Arches! Yesterday afternoon I had the pleasure of just sitting and having a wonderful afternoon gab session with a girlfriend and it reminded me of the special bond between friends. We laugh together, share our secrets and our disappointments, shed tears without shame and know that we are there for one another no matter how much time elapses between visits. Have a wonderful Sunday.

Saturday Surprise - Childhood

What do you think of when you hear the word "childhood"? To me, it is days spent totally immersed in imaginary worlds where anything was possible. I remember hours spent with paper dolls and barbie dolls, devouring books under trees in the summer and tucked under a warm blanket in the Winter. China ornaments at my Grandparents' house came alive as I moved them around (careful not to break or chip). I'm continuing to host this week for the Saturday Surprise challenge and I'd love to hear your interpretations of the theme of "Childhood".

Theme Thursday - Paris

Ah, Paris.....I've never visited it but I would love to do so. It has such a rich history and figures so prominently in history, films and artwork. I created this card for a friend of mine who also dreamed of visiting Paris. From her description when she returned, it was every bit as exciting as she'd imagined. This is my entry for this week's Theme Thursday challenge.

ATC Wednesday - Hat

Have you ever noticed that when it comes to putting the finishing touches on your artwork, especially if it involves an image of a child, a hat of some description just seems in order. I gave this shy wee gal rather uncoventional headwear but she does carry it off well, don't you think? This is my entry for ATC Wednesday this week.

Daily Art Stop - Bloom

These round robin journal pages celebrate gardens and all of the surprises that they give to us. I was preparing my garden on the weekend and in the process ran across ladybugs and snails which just emphasized the activity of nature that often goes unnoticed. This is my entry for this week's Daily Art Stop.
