One World- One Heart Project Giveaway

An art friend of mine just mentioned a wonderful event called "One World-One Heart". It is a blog-wide giveaway event coordinated by Lisa Oceandreamer. The original idea behind this was to bring bloggers together from around the world who may never ordinarily meet. It closes the gap of the blog community and enables us to interact, discover new and wonderful people, and in the process possibly win a prize or many prizes along the way. Last years event had nearly 100 participants and many connections were made because of it......friendships that are still going strong. This excited me and I vowed to participate in the project this year so I am posting my giveaways. The winners will be announced on February 14th.

I have decided to offer an altered library pocket coil book that I have designed especially for this project. Here are samples from a book that I created for a friend. The photos show the entire book which is made from library pockets as well as the library cards/tags within the pockets. The one I create for this project will be different but I wanted to give you an idea of what you'd be winning.

All you have to do is leave me a comment on this posting and your name will automatically be entered to win.

Mixed Media Monday - House

There is just someting so engaging about the house shape to me. I've used it in a few altered books over the past few months. I had altered a chipboard house book for a Winter Round Robin (top photo) and didn't use all of the pages in it. It occurred to me that I could use the pages as covers for a paperbag book and that is just what I did(bottom photo). I added real leaves and a beaded spine to the book.

Step Outside Your Box Saturdays - Beeswax

Ah beeswax.....anyone who frequents my blog knows that I am in love with wax in any form so this week's "Step Outside Your Box Saturday" is so exciting to me. These are pages that are very personal to me. The photograph with the barn is taken on my Grandfather's farm. My Dad and my Grandfather are pictured in it. A few years ago we visited the farm high on a hill. The house and barn were deserted and falling down and it was eery....as though the spirit of my family was somehow still there. The quotation is from a book that I read and it just captures the feeling of this visit. I was actually stunned when I found it.

4 X 4 Friday - Open Theme

Ah, it's nice to have an open theme on challenge sites every once in a while. This is the case for 4 X 4 Friday this week. My submission is on a theme very near and dear to my heart....the Titanic.

Theme Thursday - Celestial

This is a card that I made for my Darling for Valentine's Day. I used scrapbook paper and blue tissues with beeswax to create the background. I thought it fit the theme of this week's Theme Thursday which is "Celestial".

Mixed Media Monday - Childhood

I altered a board book with handmade papers and poetry about childhood to give to my Mom. Here is a sampling of some of the pages in it. It is my entry for Mixed Media Monday with the theme of "Childhood".

Think Monday, Think ATC - Winter

Please excuse me for using this photo of my Dad in yet another artist trading card but I really do love the photo and can almost picture him enjoying the snow on his skiis near his childhood farm. This is my submission for Think Monday, Think ATC with the theme of "Winter".

Step Outside Your Box Saturdays - Rusted Things

I was busy creating round robin journal pages this weekend and made sure that I incorporated a little rust in one of them to participate in the "Step Outside Your Box Saturdays" challenge. This page is for my own journal in an alphabet round robin. The theme of my journal is "Life Defined" and A is for "Adore".

Valentine's Day Fan Blades

I'm participating in a "Vintage Victorian Romance Fan Project" and had to make fan blades to swap with my group members. Our theme is "Sing me a Song" and we had to use sepia, off whites and vintage sheet music. These are rather addictive, I might add. I can't wait to receive all of the blades and assemble them into a gorgeous fan.

4" X 4" Friday - People with Wings

Perhaps it's because we wish we could fly that it is so natural to add wings to people in our art. Here are a couple of winged beauties....my submissions for 4 X 4 Friday this week.

Theme Thursday - Stamped Backgrounds

The Theme Thursday theme this week is "Stamped Backgrounds'. These artist trading cards are created using encaustic wax. I stamp on tissue paper and apply it to the background with clear wax then use coloured wax on top.

Tag Book Swap Anyone?

Would anyone be interested in swapping with me? I adore making tag books and would love to swap with a couple of artists for books of any kind (i.e. paperbag book, chipboard book etc.). If you are interested, please just email me and we'll "talk". Thanks!

"You Make my Day" Award

I was honoured to be nominated for the "You Make My Day" award by both Mandy and Kirsi. Thank you sweet friends!! Now I have to, in turn, nominate 10 inspirational bloggers for the award:

Think Monday Think ATC - Photo Stamps

The Think Monday Think ATC challenge this week is to create an artist trading card using photo stamps. They also mentioned what a real challenge it can be to get a clear image. I stamped this image quite a few times using Versafine ink and a brayer until I got an image that was clear. I find that each stamp has its own characteristics and you have to get the "feel" of it.

Mixed Media Monday Challenge - Whimsy

These are pages from an altered board book that I created for a friend using copies of cabinet cards. I added whimsy to the images by giving people wings and hat.....Whimsy is the theme for this week's Mixed Media Monday challenge.

Step Outside Your Box Saturdays Challenge - Magazine Art

The Step Outside Your Box Challenge (which I love) this week is to use magazines in your art. I have had an obsession (don't ask me why) with images of dogs from magazines. I use the packing tape technique to create transfers of them then create quick and easy cards.

Step Out of Your Box Saturday Challenge - Acrylics

One of my goals this year is to learn how to use acrylics and this is my "jumping off" piece. It fits perfectly into this week's "Step Out of Your Box Saturday" challenge. This is a new challenge site and a great one.

Theme Thursday Challenge - Valentines

Ah the celebration of love in every form......"Valentines" is the Theme Thursday challenge this week and these three calendar pages are my submissions.

Theme Thursday Challenge - "Quotes"

Ah, quotations....they show up on most of my work so it was not difficult to participate in this week's Theme Thursday Challenge. I took these photographs of Cape Spear lighthouse in Newfoundland while vacationing there with a friend. It was late in the day and there was a beautiful glow to the landscape. This is a spread for a round robin journal.
